Planning - Digipak and Advert Design

Before doing the photo-shoot, I know i will need plenty of photos to chose from when it comes to only choosing the one that will sum-up the whole album and theme. By having a wide variety of different and unique photos will make it easier for myself and will also allow me to review which one fits best.

I plan on using a black and white(greyscale) filter so i can edit part of the picture to be in colour to show the contrast and, again, relate to the main song. Because of the amount of practice i have had with photoshop, i am confident i will be able to produce the image i have in mind with little trouble.

Planning - Digipak Design

Idea no.2
For my second idea, I was thinking of doing a more simple design which would include the main Artist and only text. By having a more easy and simple idea will help me in deciding on a final design, depending on what fits best with not only the theme, genre and music video but also the images themselves.

When it comes to taking the picture, I am hoping to get plenty of different shot and angles, especially for the ones including smoke. However for the ones not including it, I would need the poses and surrounding areas to stand out so it gives the audience something to pay attention to now that the smoke isnt the main focus.

Below are some examples of past album covers by famous artist who have used the more simple idea of only a center image of the artist and bold text. This proving my point on how effective not over complicating a design can really be.

Planning - Digipak Design

Idea no.1
After having a little think about what I wanted to include in the cover of my album/digipak, I needed something in the image that can relate to the featured song (the colour blue or grey, signs of love and hate or youth). After researching different ways to put that same message across, i have chose to use a rebellious theme and would like to use smoke to show who the target audience are and to also symbolize the main song.

World famous bands such as Panic! at the Disco use this same theme/idea and have their albums easily recognized because of how effective the whole concept is (album shown below). Obviously i would use my own image of the singer in the main music video but while using the idea of coloured smoke to symbolize the lyrics "Everything is grey, His hair, his smoke, his dreams. And now he's so devoid of colour, He don’t know what it means".
