Evaluation Question 3 - What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Social Media Post
At the very beginning of the year, before we had chosen what song we were going to choose, both me and Erin decided to post a couple of statuses up asking which song would be best to base our media product around, 'Colours' by Halsey seemed to be the most popular, resulting in it quickly becoming a favorite and winning. We both received many comments about why it would and would not be the best idea, such as...
Classmate Feedback
Considering, I haven't had the most experience with photoshop and iMovie, asking other users of these applications sounded like the smartest idea. They gave us plenty of pointers and explained how we could improve certain areas such as effects, editing, layouts and also audio.
Our teacher was obviously the biggest help because of them knowing how and where exactly we needed to improve to help us get the best and highest grade possible.
Style Model Comments
With the original 'Colours' music video being our main style model, not every fan thinks the video is as good as it could have been. A lot of the negative comments were mainly about how confusing the story was and even by the end could quite figure out what had happened because of how unclear it was.

- "The video is very story based, wouldn't that be hard to film"
- "Massive Halsey fan, please do Gasoline or colours"
- "The song is so long though and the shots would be quite slow, Paramore is the better option "

- "Wait What? W as she taking pictures of the dad or the boyfriend?"
- "Why was she taking photos???"
- "The song doesn't match the video, why did they have to add the irrelevant story?"

Planning - Editing (Effects/Filter)
Black and White filters have been commonly used in all types of media videos/images to represent the past, memory or negative moments in time. Both me and Erin decided this idea would be perfect for our music video considering it is based around a story of love and loss. We will be using this filter whenever there is a scene that is showing the past so it makes a little more sense to the audience.
Planning - Company Logo
After the research I did on a previous post and finally deciding on a style model to base my design around, i got to work and decided that shapes and bold font were gonna be the main feature in this decide so it not only stand out but it will be memorable. Below is the final design. As you can see the colour theme is very dark but professional and the text clearly shows who the logo belongs to.
This logo will be featured on not only the poster but album to and I think it would fit perfectly with the main theme and flow. The logo will only be small on both pieces of media so i needed it to stand out but also not take any attention away from the main image.

Planning - Company Logo
After doing a little research, I found that a lot of the company logos made where quite simple and easily set out. I decided to take the most inspiration from the logo for 'Big Hit Entertainment' which is shown below. As you can see, it isn't overly complicated and is memorable. The text tells the audience all they need to know and stands out amongst a lot of the other logos you may see. By not having bright colours, shapes or images, the logo has the bold lettering making it unique and simple but effective.
After brain storming a little, i decided to use similar font and text to this logo and maybe even similar colours. I liked the idea of the 'i' dot standing out above the main text and also decided to include it in my final logo design.

Planning - Digipak and Advert
There isn't much text on the original poster but the text that is visible is bold and covers everything the audience would need to know about the new album/song. It also mentions a quote from the song in order to draw people in and give out that very little amount of information about the song meaning they would need to actually watch the music video to find out the story and why that specific quote is so important and was used on the poster.
As shown on the poster/advert, 'Billboard' and 'ABC' logo have been used at the bottom to advertise and promote. I personally think these poster advertisements are very effective and are also perfect style models considering the genre is quite similar and both have a young target audience.

Planning - Music Advert
After researching other similar artist's music adverts in magazines and websites, I decided to do a solo shot of the main artist. I took a lot of inspiration off Taylor Swifts 'Bad Blood' posters because they stood out and had a large variety of different artists featured but still had the same style, colour and text.
The main focus is obviously the female in the centre, the shading making her figure and the position she is in stand out. because of the colour theme, obviously being red, her hair is made to show colour while the other surrounding areas are in a black and white effect, this fitting perfectly with lyrics and title of my song.

Planning - Guidelines
In order for me to be able to lay out the digipak and advert out correctly, I decided to use the easy to apply guidelines. This instantly made it much simpler for me to design and create and were also easy to remove once I was finished and happy with my final piece.
I would highly recommend to future media student to use these when designing almost anything on photoshop, including posters, magazine covers, double page spreads and even contents pages.

Planning - Photoshoot
I have completed my photo shoot and am happy to have been able to collect plenty of images to choose from for both my Digipak and advert/poster design. After reviewing my images back i decided that the 'smoking' ones weren't as effective as I was hoping for, The smoke was constantly in a difficult and awkward area which would make it hard to change when it came to editing.
Below are some of the pictures taken in order to give you a small insight on how well it went and how many different types of images I was able to take. I am very pleased with how the shoot went and was glad there was no major complications with anything thanks to the amount of planning I had done.

Planning - Digipak Design
Location
Because the digipak will be the first thing the audience will see, it would have to have the same feel and theme to it that the music video gave off. The location of the image was vital cause if it was too bright it may give off a slightly happy or light hearted vibe, which is not what i wanted. I decided on a plain but rough background so the attention is completely on the main singer who will be dead centre. This will also show the serious and unhappy theme that the featured song, Colours, gives off.
Position/Pose
Because of the attention being all on Erin, i would need her to show confidence and a slightly smug attitude in order for the design of the album to flow. Poses such as looking over her shoulder or looking down toward the camera to show power are the type of positions i would like the main artist to be in.

Costume
In the music video, the whole situation is quite negative so in order to show this through a costume meant wearing almost all black to contrast the title 'Colours'. I asked for not too much make-up because it may distract the audience from the emotion on the artist face and also her body language. By having a very natural look to her meant she looked more realistic and relatable to the audience, which may help the connection to the music video and target audience. I kept the same look in both my digipak and advert in order for the audience to recognise it and see the similarities compare to the music video.

Planning - Digipak and Advert Design
Before doing the photo-shoot, I know i will need plenty of photos to chose from when it comes to only choosing the one that will sum-up the whole album and theme. By having a wide variety of different and unique photos will make it easier for myself and will also allow me to review which one fits best.
I plan on using a black and white(greyscale) filter so i can edit part of the picture to be in colour to show the contrast and, again, relate to the main song. Because of the amount of practice i have had with photoshop, i am confident i will be able to produce the image i have in mind with little trouble.

Planning - Digipak Design
Idea no.2
For my second idea, I was thinking of doing a more simple design which would include the main Artist and only text. By having a more easy and simple idea will help me in deciding on a final design, depending on what fits best with not only the theme, genre and music video but also the images themselves.
When it comes to taking the picture, I am hoping to get plenty of different shot and angles, especially for the ones including smoke. However for the ones not including it, I would need the poses and surrounding areas to stand out so it gives the audience something to pay attention to now that the smoke isnt the main focus.
Below are some examples of past album covers by famous artist who have used the more simple idea of only a center image of the artist and bold text. This proving my point on how effective not over complicating a design can really be.

Idea no.1
After having a little think about what I wanted to include in the cover of my album/digipak, I needed something in the image that can relate to the featured song (the colour blue or grey, signs of love and hate or youth). After researching different ways to put that same message across, i have chose to use a rebellious theme and would like to use smoke to show who the target audience are and to also symbolize the main song.
World famous bands such as Panic! at the Disco use this same theme/idea and have their albums easily recognized because of how effective the whole concept is (album shown below). Obviously i would use my own image of the singer in the main music video but while using the idea of coloured smoke to symbolize the lyrics "Everything is grey, His hair, his smoke, his dreams. And now he's so devoid of colour, He don’t know what it means".
